Adrift

I just finished reading an interesting book, Adrift by Steven Callahan. He was adrift alone at sea for 76 days in a 6-man life raft before being rescued.

With very few tools and supplies he hunted for food and water, fended off sharks, kept the liferaft from capsizing, kept the liferaft moving so he could make it to a shipping lane or land, and navigated using very primitive tools - while dealing with constant starvation and thirst.

The book ends with this: "Each of us is lucky if we must face only one serious crisis in our lives. And in those times when I feel alone and desperate, I take comfort in the silent company of those who have suffered greater ordeals, and survived."
