26

A friend just asked me how many pairs of shoes I own, and so I counted them maybe for the first time ever. I own 26 pairs including my bedroom slippers. Five of those pairs of shoes are for horseback riding and barn work. One pair is insulated for winter wear. Three pairs of flip-flops for summer wear. A pair of running shoes for working out only. And the rest are cute for dressing up.

The leather repair shop across the street repairs donated shoes and then gives them to the homeless. A great way to recycle used shoes and give shoes a second chance at life.

  1. Andrea, you don't know me, but you are getting me in trouble with your shoe comments. Our mutual friend, Craig Paddock came by my house the other day and happened to be in my wardrobe closet and noticed all of my shoes. Since then he has been giving me grief for the many pairs of shoes I have and today has forwarded me your blog. Yes, I actually have more than you, but I think that is every woman's right to have shoes. I'm not Imelda Marcos by any means, but I like my shoes. So I think it is wonderful that you give your shoes for rehab that helps the homeless, but I must make my case. I think he is hinting for me to do the same. I have to say that I can't because I love my shoes too much. I may take them into rehab, but for selfish reasons I rewear them again. Plus, I tried to tell our dear friend Craig that I don't think the homeless would want my shoes. They aren't very practical for roaming the streets, the high heels will probably end them up in the hospital for twisting their ankles on the uneven pavement. And I do have some flats for work, but I wear them out that even a rehab shop will have a hard time to make them look good again since I'm not in the normal, cubicle 8-5 job. So with this said, I think Craig has it in his head that you are a "shoe saint" and very responsible of the quantity of shoes you own. I need to know once you donate your shoes, aren't you replacing them with new shoes? Don't you feel the urge to replace that great pair of shoes you donated with a new set? Or if you see a great sale don't you just have to have those great strappies for summer? Please tell me that you aren't perfect in your shoe sense and that you might have a little Kerri Bradshaw (from Sex in the City) in you. And if you don't, I heard a rumor that you were going to spend next weekend here in Kansas City so I look forward to seeing you and I may have to force Craig to take us shoe shopping!!!

    Sincerely,
    Sara

  2. Hi Sara! I love clothes and shoes in general, although I never really had a lot of either growing up and I guess the habit stuck. My closet's kind of like an overcrowded night club. When a new pair of shoes or piece of clothing comes in, an older pair or item gets donated. I've never been called a "shoe saint" but I love the comparison.

Hope to meet you this weekend!
